Jockey Quotes

BEJARANO, BACKBACKBACKGONE, Winner: “Being his first time on the turf I think it was the best choice to send him because I wanted to keep him out of trouble. He was very comfortable on the lead. He was still running strongly at the end. He didn’t change leads, but he never does. He’s a real nice horse and he’s still learning.”

Trainer Quotes

PETER MILLER, BACKBACKBACKGONE, Winner: “The timing just made sense to try him on turf. We got him back off the layoff and this was the spot we were pointing him to. This horse never changes leads in his races. He switches fine in the mornings. If I had hair I’d pull it out. If he ran 1:08 flat on his left lead I think he could run a little better switching. He does it in the morning, but he refuses in the afternoon. As long as he gets to the wire first I guess it doesn’t matter what lead he’s on.”
