INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 4, 2012)— A stakes winner each of the last two years at Betfair Hollywood Park, Smiling Tiger continued to prepare for his 5-year-old debut Wednesday morning.

The multiple graded stakes winning sprinter worked five furlongs over Cushion Track in 59 seconds, the best of 28 works at the distance.

Owned by Alan Klein and Phil Lebherz and trained by Jeff Bonde, Smiling Tiger won the Grade III Lazaro S. Barerra Memorial Stakes during the 2010 Spring/Summer meet before capturing the Grade I Ancient Title during the Oak Tree/Hollywood Park meet later that year.

In 2011, the son of Hold That Tiger won another Grade I locally, easily taking the Triple Bend Handicap in gate-to-wire fashion. Among his victims that day was eventual Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner and Eclipse champion Amazombie.

Out of the Cahill Road mare Shandra Smiles, Smiling Tiger, who could surface in races like the $100,000 Los Angeles Handicap (May 28) and a defense of his title in the Triple Bend (June 30) during the Spring/Summer meet, has won eight of 18 and banked $1,214,353.
