INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 6, 2012)—Nofty, the 7-10 favorite, won for the second time in six starts over the Betfair Hollywood Park turf course, capturing the $52,350 feature (video) for California breds Friday night.

On or near the lead throughout, the 5-year-old Stormy Atlantic gelding – who is winless in eight starts elsewhere – prevailed by 1 ¼ lengths over 5-1 shot Mr. Ornery in 1:09.35 for the six furlongs.

Owned by HnR Nothhaft Horse Racing LLC and trained by Gary Mandella, Nofty was ridden by Garrett Gomez. The victory increased the dark bay’s earnings to $125,200.

Second in two of his defeats over the local grass, Nofty, who is out of the Seattle Song mare Bless Shoe, paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10.

A 40-1 first out winner over the course June 9 for trainer Marty Jones, Mr. Ornery outfinished stablemate Blue Jay Attack by a nose for second. He paid $4.40 and $2.80 while the show price on Blue Jay Attack was $2.40.

Dance With Gable, Valentine Boy, who disputed the issue early with the winner, and Heart Fever completed the order of finish.

Racing resumes Saturday. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

The main event on the 10 race card is the $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, a Grade I at 1 ¼ miles over Cushion Track.

Game On Dude, who lost by a nose to stablemate First Dude in this race a year ago, is the 4-5 favorite on Russ Hudak’s morning line.

One race before the Gold Cup, fillies and mares will face off on turf in the $150,000 Royal Heroine Mile. The Grade II is headed by Redondo Beach Stakes winner All Star Heart, Quiet Oasis and Nereid, who is seeking her first win since she dead heated with Cambina in the 2011 American Oaks.

There will also be a fedora giveaway – one per paid admission while supplies last and Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I’ll Have Another will be paraded between the third and fourth races.

Doug O’Neill, I’ll Have Another’s trainer, and Mario Gutierrez, who went 4-for-4 aboard the Flower Alley colt, will be available for an autograph session from 12-1 p.m. near the Paddock Tote Board.
Meanwhile, jockey Chantal Sutherland, the regular rider for Game On Dude, will be Kurt Hoover’s guest on The Inside Scoop, which begins at 12 Noon at the Paddock Tote Board.

Additionally, there will be a Gold Cup hat contest with a $500 first prize and Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay, Jr. will present the Award named in his honor between the fifth and sixth races to longtime California owner-breeder and former California Horse Racing Board chairman John Harris.
