INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 30, 2010)—In her final work (video) in Southern California before she heads to Kentucky, Zenyatta drilled six furlongs in 1:11 4/5 Saturday morning at Hollywood Park.
Exercising over Cushion Track under jockey Mike Smith, the 6-year-old Street Cry mare, who is undefeated in 19 starts, went her opening eighth of a mile in 12 4/5 seconds, the quarter in 25 2/5, three-eighths in 37, a half-mile in 48 3/5 and five furlongs in 1:00, meaning she covered her final eighth in 11 4/5.
Zenyatta, whose work partners were stablemates Sarbonne and El Vino, galloped out seven furlongs in 1:25 1/5, according to Hollywood Park clocker and morning line maker Russ Hudak.
El Vino was credited with a 36 1/5 three furlong work. Sarbonne was timed in 1:01 3/5 for five furlongs.
Zenyatta, who will attempt to defend her title in the Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs, is scheduled to ship to Louisville Nov. 2 for trainer John Shirreffs and owners Jerry and Ann Moss.
